DESIGNERS

The love of fashion and aspiring to work in the fashion industry is a dream that is not rare. Many lose their motivation after realising that fashion is less about the glitz and glamour they see in pictures and more about the work put in to make the outfits. But for 28-year-old, Pelumi Akinwande of MINIST, the sensation from her hard work was just the beginning.
The first few days of May were mindblowing for Akinwande. She was in Central London, a CEO and Creative, about to send a collection down the runway at her alma mater, The British School of Fashion, Glasgow Caledonian University. “I was very hands-on with this collection, from the fabric sourcing to the launch of Ulo Ile Collection at MINIST, I used to sew as far back as 2015 which was made-to-measure for clients but now, I work with a meticulous manufacturer based in Africa but you can always catch me working, from making final cuts to explaining the visions to the models and all other parties involved, the details always matter in execution. I am also very intentional about ethical practices— from conception to consumptions, especially sourcing and working conditions.”
